28 May 2018 - cowl vent area
I waited the 48 hours as indicated by the instructions on the paint can. Almost as soon as I put one thin layer of clear, it went gray!!! I dont what caused this, I cleaned and prepped the surface per the instructions. Since that time, I have been busy trying to remove/strip the paint from the cowl vent area. Right now I am waiting for the paint/clear to dry then I will sand it all down and start over. The paint/clear supposed to dry in 48 hours.

27 May 2018 - Firewall upper area
After painting the cowl vent area, I was looking over the upper firewall area and have come to the determination that I am not an autobody painter type of guy. So what I'm saying is that I am going to repaint that firewall upper area. I will sand it to smooth the surface areas and repaint with VHT chassis black. But I will finish the cowl vent area first.

26 May 2018 - Cowl Vent area
Well I decided to clean up and paint a couple coats of red paint on the cowl vent area. For the last year or so it has been primer gray.
I sanded the cowl vent area, wiped down the area and sprayed 2-3 coats of Sunrise Red Rustoleum enamel. After about 20 minutes I removed all of the newspaper and tape that was covering the rest of the car and let the cowl vent area dry. The can indicates that a recoat can happen after 48 hours or I can put down a clear coat after the 48 hour time.
What I will do is this, wait 48 hours then scuff the paint and put a couple more light coats of red down. Wait 48 hours then put clear down.

23 May 2018 - pieces-parts
While I was online, I purchased a couple of used parts. I bought a set of front pillar post covers and a set of clips that hold the rear quarter panels to the interior.
Here are the parts before clean-up;
And here they are after a bit of clean up and prep;

All I did was put these in a jar of Evapo-Rust and let it sit for a couple of days and this is how they look as of now. |

13 May 2018 - Firewall upper area
Today I had some time and thought I would clean/prep and paint the upper firewall area. I painted the area with gray primer last summer.
I used VHT chassis black, satin finish. I put down three coats. It cures in 6-7 days, so I will repaint again next sunday.

13 May 2018 - Rear trunk area
The upper rear fender area where the trunk lid closes and the rear brake/turn signal panel needed a little corrosion control. I had a few ounces of corroseal, so I used that to paint those problem areas. I was able to coat all the areas. Once that dries, I'll see if I need to do more corrosion control in those areas. I do need to do areas in the back seat from the rear quarter windows through to the trunk along the quarter panels. I have two cans of Eastwoods Encapsulator 16060. I will prep the areas to use that stuff in the next couple of days.

6 May 2018 - Driver side valve cover
Apparently there was a slow oil leak at the driver side valve cover. The cork gasket was replaced a few months ago when I pulled the valve cover to remove the paint and clean up the valve cover. I installed a rubber gasket with a metal core on the driver side valve cover. The passenger side is not leaking so I left the cork gasket in place.

4th of May 2018 - front suspension
Today I lubed the upper and lower balljoints, inner and out tie rods, manual steering adapter and the idler arm.
3 May 2018 - front shock absorbers
I finally replaced the front shocks. I should have replaced them at
the same time as the front suspension. The old shocks would not
decompress!
