27 November 2019 - mod - Headlight door hinges - corrosion control

Yesterday, started cleaning up, removing rust from a set of head light door hinges.  Today, I continued with using Krudd kutter rust converter/remover and its worked pretty well so far.  Couple more days of using the rust remover and I should be able to paint the pieces.

11 November 2019 - MSD 8479 - mechanical advance stop

Replaced the default blue mechanical advance stop(blue) with a black one.

Replacing that mechanical stop requires removing the distributor from the engine, removing cap and rotor.  Then the mechanical stop location is more accessible.  That whole process takes about 30 minutes.

10 November 2019 - 8479 advance springs

Two light silver springs were installed.

Removed both light silver springs and replaced them with two light blue springs.

The mechanical stop is blue, going to change that to black.

8 November 2019 - Spark Plug change-out cont'd

Finished replacing the plugs for cylinders 5 - 8.  Seems like a couple of cylinders have bad rings!?!?

 

7 November 2019 - Spark Plug change-out

Started to replace the spark plugs today.  Started with the passenger side of the engine( plugs 1 - 4).

The plugs that are installed are NGK TR5s.  I decided to go with E3 plugs and see how that works.  So I bought 8 from Amazon.  Part numbers are good and I did get 8.  But one of the plugs has a poorly welded ground terminal.  It was so bad that two of the three attachment points have spatter and welding material sticking out of the metal.

So I went down to Advanced Auto and bought a few just in case more have material defects.

I was only able to replace plugs 1 thru 4 today.

6 November 2019 - E3 Spark plugs

Received the E3 spark plugs today.  To be installed tomorrow.

I bought E3.53 plugs which have a factory gap of .040.

I used to have a a set of E3.54 plugs which have a factory gap of .040.
