25 June 2016 - Transmission

The week of 27 June - 1 July I will take the C4 transmission into the local transmission shop for rebuild.  The transmission is in pretty good shape so the cost should not be too high.

24 June 2016 - Radiator / Engine block

Picked up the radiator today.  It was cleaned up and pressure checked.  The transmission cooler portion of the radiator was leaking and it was repaired.

The engine block is useable and was bored .030 over.  Next week I need to drop off the timing chain cover.  Need to clean up the bolts/fasteners and drop those off too.

19 June 2016 - late post

Friday of last week I spoke to the machinist.  He said that cylinders 1 and 5 are in bad shape.  He is hoping that boring the cylinders to .030 or.040 will resolve the damage.  He will be working on the engine/cylinder heads/intake the week of 20-24 June 2016.

15 June 2016 - machine shop

I talked to the machinist at the machine shop yesterday.  He said the cylinder heads would be ready to pick up later in the week.  He also said he will be starting work on the block this week.

11 June 2016 - timing cover - oil pump - water pump

Couple days ago started cleanup of the timing cover.  Will continue today then move on to anything else engine related that needs to be cleaned up so that I can take them to the machine shop.

Cleanup up the timing cover and valve covers.  Started working on cleaning up the water pump.  Dunno if its rebuildable...did a little research but could not find a rebuild kit for this particular edelbrock waterpump.

11 June 2016 - headers

Finished cleanup and painting of the headers.  I used BBQ High temp paint rustoleum.  Don't know how well that will work but it was worth trying.

9 June 2016 - parts cleanup - headers

I have been cleaning up the headers the last few days.  Since I don't have access to a media blast cabinet, it is a PITA.  So hopefully I get then clean enough and painted properly.

The oil pan and water pump arrived today.

Painted both headers, need to repaint another coat but I will wait until tomorrow.

6 June 2016 - Machine shop

I contacted the machine shop today and the machinist let me know that the cylinder heads were ok and can be used for the rebuild.  He said he will be working on the heads this week and might have them ready by next week.

I stopped by the machine shop today and dropped off the block, crank, crank caps, pistons/rods to have them checked.  The machinist checked the block and found that the block and pistons are at a standard bore.

5 June 2016 - hardware cleanup - headers

I picked up a rust remover called Krudd Kutter to see how well that would remove rust from the headers.  I have been working on one exhaust header so far to see how this will work.

That stuff works pretty good.  But to do a thorough job I need to get a larger quantity and put the header in the fluid rather than wipe it on and off.

3 June 2016 - cleanup of various hardware - headers

Although the headers are about 12 years old, they are in very good shape.  The paint has faded long ago but the tubing is intact just rust covered.  I have spent the last couple of days cleaning up the headers so that I can then get a primer coat on them and then a final coat.

31 May 2016 - cylinder heads - machine shop

I dropped off the cylinder heads at the machine shop to get them checked.  The machinist said he would pressure check the heads to determine their status.  Hopefully he has good news...
