25 Feb 2018 - General stuff

Worked on cleaning up the engine bay this weekend.  The valve covers had overspray of blue engine paint from when the engine was worked on in 2016.  Today I removed the valve covers, and removed the blue paint and re-installed the valve covers.  Although the valve covers are 15 years and rusty in spots, they still look okay and are useable.

I cleaned up and painted the export brace.  I used VHT roll bar and chassis black - Satin, to touch up areas in the engine bay and the export brace.

For the moment its fairly clean in the engine bay.  I do need to clean up and paint areas under the engine bay and crossmembers.  Weather permitting I will do that the week of 25 Feb to 2 Mar.

19 Feb 2018 - upgrades/spare parts/stuff

The fuel line upgrade and oil pressure line upgrade are working as advertised.  I should have gone with -AN fittings and hoses a long time ago.

The carb to pedal linkage was replaced in June of 2017.  The steel components were not painted/treated at that time and have rusted a little since.

So I removed the linkage and painted chassis saver on the steel, rusty piece and re-installed.

I also was looking over/through the engine bay and did touch up paint on areas that needed it.  I used VHT Chassis and Roll Bar Black.

12 Feb 2018 - recent upgrades

The fuel line upgrade and oil pressure line upgrade have checked out good at this point.  I have only tested the upgrades by doing an engine startup and run until the engine was at operating temps.  No leaks.  Need to run the engine longer to make sure everything is working.

10 Feb 2018 - Driver side door - window crank

The driver side door window crank was a little loose.  I dis-assembled the door to access the interior of the door.  The window crank is non adjustable, and the part that  I thought was loose is not.  So I cleaned up what I could and put everything back together.

10 Feb 2018 - Interior - Driver side door threshhold

I finally installed the pinch weld trim that runs the perimeter of the driver side door.  Its not original but it covers the sharp edges.

10 Feb 2018 - oil pressure line upgrade

Today I replaced the nylon pressure line with -4AN SS hose.  The SS hose is 60" long and seems like it could be a better fit if it was 1' less in length.

I installed a 1/8" female to -4AN male adapter at the oil pressure gauge.  I installed a 1/4" npt male to -4AN male adapter to the oil pressure port assembly.

10 Feb 2018 - Engine bay fuel line upgrade

I made a couple of changes to the fuel lines and fittings running from the fuel pump output to the carb inlet.

I replaced the banjo fitting and the hose connected to it, with these components.  A banjo fitting that has a -6AN male end, and a SS braided 1' piece with female -6AN connections.

The 16" SS hose is now connected from the fuel pump output to the fuel filter.

3 Feb 2018 - Fuel line upgrade - engine compartment

Today I was able to replace the fuel line that connects from the fuel pump to the carb.

The old setup was a steel tube about 10" long, connected at the fuel pump outlet.  The tube was angled up near the driver side cylinder head.  A rubber hose about 6" long was connected to that steel tube and the other end of the hose had the fuel filter connected.  A rubber hose about 1' long was connected to the other side of the fuel pump and then connected to the fuel inlet of the holley carb.

This is the new installation using -6AN hoses and fittings. The following parts were used to create the fuel line assembly.  One, 3' SS braided hose with female -6AN ends, one -6AN female hose end, one, -6AN fuel filter assembly with male -6AN ends and one, 9/16-24 to -6AN hose end.

I cut the 3' SS braided hose into two pieces.  One piece is 16.5" long, one end has the 9/16-24 banjo fitting to the holley fuel inlet, the other end has a -6AN female end.  The other piece of SS hose was cut to 19".  One end has the original -6AN female fitting, the other end I installed a -6AN female fitting.

I used a cutoff wheel to cut the SS hose and that worked very well.  I used a large zip tie to mark where I would cut the hose.  The zip tie does an excellent job of holding the SS braid in place while cutting the hose.  Assembling each of the hoses was pretty easy.  I cleaned up the hoses, flushed them out with air then water to make sure no rubber/metal pieces parts end up in the wrong places.  I will monitor the installation for leaks, but so far there have not been any issues.

This is the 9/16-24 banjo fitting to -6AN hose end.

The adapter used at the fuel pump outlet is a male 5/16 inverted flare to -6AN male

This little gem is the modular fuel filter.  It can be disassembled and the filter element can be  removed/cleaned/replaced.
