21 December 2016 - general stuff
After I installed the u-joints, I noticed there was very littel free play in the joint rotation of each of the u-joints. I thought maybe I had not properly installed the hardware so I took the driveshaft to a local transmission shop. The owner showed me that although the u-joints were properly installed, the bearing cups were not completely seated and that was causing the apparent binding. To properly seat the u-joint bearing cups the mechanic used a hammer to tap the u-joint collars at each end of the driveshaft. Doing that released the tension the bearing cups were under and properly seated the bearing cups allowing the u-joints significantly improved movement.
TODO for tomorrow:
- Tightened/torqued the sway bar mounting brackets and end links
- torqued the lower control arms to 85 ft-lbs
TODO for tomorrow:
- install transmission vacuum hard line and rubber hose to vacuum modulator
- install shifter linkage
- install driveshaft and torque to specs

20 Dec 2016 - driveshaft
Installed the front and rear u-joints into the driveshaft. The u-joints installed pretty easily. But the movement at each end is tight, much more tight than the old ones.
Installed the sway bar end links, did not torque yet. Still need to torque lower control arms then need to torque end links then the sway bar mounts to the frame.
I am considering taking the driveshaft assembly to the local transmission shop and have them take a quick look to make sure I properly installed the u-joints and to check the free play of the u-joints.

18 December 2016 - Engine/Transmission
17 December, 2016
Continued with getting ready for mounting transmission to engine.I have the transmission cradle setup and ready.
Also bought three plugs to plug the transmission dipstick port, speedometer port and a third one that I can't remember what it was for...
The transmission rear mount did not come with lock washers/nuts, so I had to track those down.
The transmission crossmember that mounts to the body of the car, somewhere along the line, I lost track of the nuts and washers, so I had to find replacements.
Filled the torque converter with a quart or so of fluid. Pretty much have things ready.
18 December, 2016
Today started with re-organizing the garage so that I can install the engine into the car.Put the engine on the engine hoist so that I could install the insulator brackets to the engine.
On the passenger side of the engine, the headers make contact with the engine to transmission spacer. The headers already had a spot that was massaged so the spacer would not make contact. I got out the dremel and ground off just a little bit of material from the spacer and that took care of that problem.
The engine/transmission has been installed into the car, and the motor mounts, transmission mounts/crossmembers have been torqued.
