27 October 2019 - tachometer Super Sun Tach II

Finally re-installed the tach.  I apparently left the wires in the dash and tucked out of the way.  I only had to run a wire from the MSD 6 tach terminal to the dash/tach.  The wires from the tach had to be re-terminated and connected.  So it was pretty quick/easy process.

26 October 2019 - baby moon hubcaps

Decided to see what baby moon hubcaps really look like on the car.  I do like the look.

Here, the white letters not completely cleaned

The white letters have been completely cleaned.  This hubcap turned out to be about 1/32" too small, as a result of the tight fit, nickel plating literally bubbled

20 October 2019 - Fuel line - cont'd

Did a test drive for about 15 minutes at highway and city traffic speeds, no leaks or issues.

Did an engine start/run cycle a couple of times to check for leaks.  So far everything is good.  Need to go for a couple test drives to thoroughly check the new installations.

19 October 2019 - Baby Moon hub caps and stuff

I liked the look of the baby moon hub caps I saw on a 68 cougar, so I thought I'd order a set for my car.

Mr Gasket Baby Moon Hub Caps Most GM and Ford w/14" or 15" Stock Wheels
Part Number: 720-4580

Here is a -6an male to -6an male 90 degree fitting.  This will be used if the -6an male to -6an male union does not work

19 October 2019 - fuel line

Replaced the fuel line from the carb to fuel pressure regulator.  I had a two sections of an6 female end hoses connected to a fuel filter, that ran from the carb inlet to the fuel pressure outlet.  That layout didnt allow the installation of a 14" air cleaner assembly, I could only install smalller odd shaped filters.

Heres what the fuel line/air filter setup looked like before replacing the fuel pressure regulator to carb fuel line...whats not shown is the fuel filter that is hidden from view by the distributor...

Here you can see the fuel filter..

Heres what the setup looks like after re-arranging the -6an hoses...this was done so that a 14" air cleaner assembly could be installed...

The  black hard line at the carb has a -6an female connector. The blue fitting is a -6an male to -6an male straight union/adapter.

The blue -6an to -6an adapter connects the -6an hose with -6an female ends to the fuel pressure regulator

13 October 2019 - Front grille center

Finally replaced/removed the original sticker from the front center grille piece.  It was 50+ years old and very faded.  Its pretty easy to remove/install, just basic hand tools; hammer, flat screw drivers and time.  I used an epoxy glue to keep the mercury head piece in place.

12 October 2019 - Edelbrock 9266 gasket kit - revisited

Installed the gasket from the Edelbrock 9266 kit.  This time I installed a square bore gasket then the 9266 gasket then another square bore gasket, then installed the carb.  Took it for a spin and did not notice any of the idle/surge issues that happened last time that gasket was installed.

11October 2019 - tire swap

Swapped tires from front to rear to see if the vibrations move fore/aft...

Went for a test drive and now the rear vibrations have significantly been reduced.

So the plan is to replace the two wheels up front.  Prolly need to do the back too, but for the short term the front two will be replaced.

8 October 2019 - idle surge/highway speed surges

After driving the car a couple of days since changing the carb gasket to a thicker 1/4" gasket, noticed the engine surges, runs rough.  So I removed the 9266 gasket and re-installed the standard intake to carb gasket and the engine now runs as it should.  Closer inspection of the carb spacer shows that the spacer is not completely flat.  So installing the spacer initially was no problem, the carb seated and compressed the spacer-gasket.  Well after a few days of driving, the spacer-gasket distorts causing the leaks.  Only way I can fix that is to put a standard intake to carb gasket above and below the spacer-gasket to seal it.

I also swapped back the distributor advance spring, I removed one light silver spring and installed one heavy spring.  Once I get the carb spacer issue sorted, I will get back to recurving the distributor timing.

6 October 2019 - front suspension

Cleaned up all the suspension components that can be greased, and greased them.

6 October 2019 - MSD distributor 8479 - advance spring change out

The distributor advance springs installed; 1 heavy silver spring, 1 light silver spring.  The advance stop is blue.

Today I replaced the heavy silver spring with a light silver spring.  So now there are two light silver springs installed.  That shifts the total timing to come in at around 2200 rpm.

Will monitor drive-ability.  Might change the advance stop to black...

5 Oct 2019 - Edelbrock 9266 gasket kit

I installed the gasket kit, took about 15 minutes, and that included the engine check.

4 Oct 2019 - edelbrock 9266 gasket kit

I ordered a gasket kit to better deal with heat soak with the 1406.  The kit arrived today, I will be installing it this weekend.
