15 May 2016 - Engine Removal

Started the process of removing the engine from the Merc.  Here are a few pictures...

Getting the engine hoist ready to lift the hood.
another pic, getting  things in place to remove hood
Hood removed and stored by the window

Today, the aim was to remove the hood, engine coolant and hoses, starter, exhaust system and engine bay wiring.  Over the next week the engine will be removed and put on the engine stand.  The transmission may be removed...haven't really decided yet.  Need a transmission plug/cap for the driveshaft input so that when the transmission is removed, fluid will not leak everywhere.  Currently the exhaust is tie wrapped to the transmission mount.  That was done because I didn't need to completely remove the exhaust system.

Ignition coil wires...
Driver side engine wiring
Alternator wiring - Black wire/yellow strip location on starter relay
...fan removed...
Had to remove the passenger side header to remove the starter

Did a little more work on the engine.  Removed the alternator and wiring, disconnected the transmission wiring harness.  Disconnected vacuume hoses and fittings and anything else left.  The engine at this point could be unbolted from the transmission and removed but I am really considering only removing the engine.  I ordered a transmission plug kit to cap the transmission output shaft so that once the driveshaft is removed, transmission fluid won't leak.
