15 July 2017 - Passenger side cowl vent

To get a good look at the passenger side cowl vent, quite a bit of hardware needs to be removed.  I removed/un-installed the following; the glove box and door, the heater box/vent assembly(had to drain engine coolant and disconnect heater hoses from manifold and water pump), passenger side vent and hose, disconnected the driver side vent hose from the heater box/vent assembly.

With all of that out of the way, allow very good access to the cowl vent and area.  I found that there is extensive surface rust buts not rust from metal soaking in water its kinda like rust caused by high moisture/high humidity.  That type of rust was all around the cowl vent and area.  Also the seam sealer appears to have drive up around the cowl vent.  The cowl vent / air inlet metal panel is made up of three pieces; one long piece of preformed metal and the two short tubes that are cowl vent inlets.  Around each of those pieces, the seam sealer has dried up!  So when water comes in and passes by the cowl vents it leaks into the interior of the car.

So to fix this I will spray/paint rust encapsulator throughout the cowl vent area on both sides, then put seam sealer where needed.  I did buy a cowl vent repair kit.  But I found that the passenger side does not need that type of hardware.
